Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe’s Los Angeles Tour Experience

Marilyn Monroe famously said: “Hollywood’s a place where they’ll pay you a thousand dollars for a kiss, and fifty cents for your soul.” During Marilyn Monroe’s Los Angeles Tour, you will see the city from the superstar’s perspective.

Over the years, many fans have enjoyed re-tracing her footsteps in the City of Angels. While Marilyn Monroe’s movies are impressive, the story of her life is far more fascinating. We will show you Marilyn Monroe’s house in Beverly Hills, the locations of her famous movie sets and photoshoots, her favorite restaurants and hangouts, and, of course, her final resting place.

Marilyn Monroe’s House inside in Beverly Hills

The star lived in over 40 residences during her short life. Interestingly, she only ever bought one house. Her psychiatrist advised her to put down some roots to help her feel more stable. Consequently, in 1962, Marilyn purchased a home in Brentwood: 12305 Fifth Helena Drive. It was here in Marilyn Monroe’s house in Brentwood that she was found dead in the same year.

Marilyn Monroe House

We will show you Marilyn Monroe’s house inside in Beverly Hills, along with some of the other places she lived, including:

El Palacio Apartments Marilyn Monroe, West Hollywood – This was the home of actor John Carroll and his wife, Lucille Ryman. Marilyn lived here with the couple for five months in 1947.

Marilyn Monroe House

718 North Palm Drive, Beverly Hills – Between 1949 and 1950, Marilyn lived at the home of her agent Johnny Hyde, of the William Morris Agency. Hyde was instrumental in Marilyn’s success. He encouraged the actress to have plastic surgery, and dye her hair platinum blonde. He subsequently landed her a contract with 20th Century Fox.

Marilyn Monroe House

2393 Castilian Drive, Hollywood Hills – Marilyn met Joe DiMaggio in 1952. During their time together, they rented this property in Outpost Estates. This is a true Marilyn Monroe house. Outpost Estates is an iconic residential neighborhood located in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles. The neighborhood’s history dates back to the 1920s when it was developed as a secluded enclave for Hollywood’s elite. Marilyn Monroe and Joe Dimaggio’s house has a distinctive look and charm of old Hollywood.

Marilyn Monroe House

Voltaire Apartments, West Hollywood – After her romance with DiMaggio was over, Marilyn rented this apartment in what is now known as Granville Towers. She stayed here for a short while, before heading to New York City.

Owlwood Estate, Holmby Hills – This opulent mansion belonged to Joseph Schenk, the cofounder of 20th Century Fox. Marilyn is said to have lived here with him, but she denied rumors of a romance between her and the movie mogul. Owlwood estate was the largest mansion in Los Angeles when it was built in 1937. Subsequently, it has had other famous owners, including Tony Curtis, and Sonny and Cher. In 2017, the estate was on the market for $180 million.

Marilyn Monroe’s Homes in Hotels

The star didn’t just rent houses – she also lived for periods of her life in hotels. We will show you some of the most notable around Los Angeles and share some interesting information about her time there.

Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel – There are rumors that Marilyn’s ghost haunts the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Find out for yourself if this is true with a stay in her favorite suite, renovated to reflect her elegance and glamour.

Hotel Bel-Air – Marilyn resided here from 1948 to 1949, courtesy of Columbia Pictures. The Hotel Bel-Air is also the location of her last modeling shoot, the famous ‘Last Sitting‘, by legendary photographer Bert Stern. The 12-hour shoot took place in 1962, just six weeks before her tragic death.

Beverly Hills Hotel – Marilyn had a favorite bungalow for her many stays at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Fans of the star can stay in this recently renovated bungalow and enjoy an authentic Marilyn Monroe experience. From $8,500 per night, the apartment includes a Chanel No. 5 perfume bar, a Dom Perignon bubble bath, and a library stocked with Marilyn-themed books. Decorated in muted golds and dusky pinks, it epitomizes the blonde bombshell’s luxurious style.

Beverly Carlton Hotel – Now called the Avalon Hotel. Marilyn lived here during several different periods of her life. She first stayed here in 1948 and then again in 1951 and 1952. Also, the superstar posed for photographers here on many occasions, both around the hotel pool and in her studio apartment.

The Legend of Marilyn Monroe

As Elton John said in his tribute song to Marilyn, ‘Candle in the Wind,’ – ‘Your candle burned out long before your legend ever did.’ Although she was just 36 when she died, Marilyn’s legend lives on to this day.

Marilyn was the ultimate icon of the Golden Age of Hollywood. Effortlessly beautiful, seductive and charming, she delighted audiences everywhere. In her short life, Marilyn achieved so much. As a result, she is still known as one of Hollywood’s most famous and treasured icons.

  • star ratingMy family recently went on a 3-week trip to the United States. Our experience was phenomenal and was the perfect way to conclude our trip. The itinerary of our tour included the Hollywood sign, walk of fame, the celebrity houses of Beverly Hills and many more. Our guide Alexander was incredibly informative and highly knowledgable and truly made the experience! We took 20 minutes to stroll along the walk of fame and visit the famous Hotel Roosevelt. Alongside the incredible sight-seeing experience, the car did not disappoint. We were greeted with a fabulous red Cadillac, topping off the luxury experience. When in Los Angeles, this certainly isn't an opportunity to miss!

star ratingGeorge toured us in his Cadillac for 4 hours in L.A. to discover our sights of choice as this was our first visit to L.A. We got a great feel of the city by going to Hollywood, Grifgith park, Farmer’s market, Beverly Hills and other places. George was providing great insights as we were driving through the streets and sights, and took great pictures of us.
Such a wonderful experience which we recommend to anyone who wants to « feel » the city!
Thank you George and Classic Experiences for having made this day special!

star ratingWe can’t say enough good things about Alexander and the tour he gave us around LA, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, etc. He was incredibly knowledgeable, fun, funny and friendly - and had extensive insight into everywhere we went. We did a four hour tour and extended for 90 mins more because we didn’t want it to end. If you are looking for a great tour and don’t know where to begin - look no further than here!

star ratingWow, this is the proper LA Experience! We got so lucky to have Cameron as our trusty know all guide and driver. He picked us up in a classic Cadillac Convertible and immediately made us feel comfortable. We wanted to feel the old glamour of LA and Cameron put us right in the middle of it. He was a very funny personable guy and had the most amazing inside stories including personally knowing Oscar winners.
we all just felt like close friends at the end of it. If you want to experience Hollywood the way it was meant to be do this tour! And ask for Cam! You will have the time of your life.

star ratingWe very much enjoyed the tour of Beverly Hills, Bel Air and Hollywood with our knowledgeable guide Alex. He’s a safe driver and has something to say about almost every boulevard we drive along, every landmark building, knows about the properties of old and new stars, about the cinemas, music clubs and restaurants. We stopped for a photo shoot at the Hollywood sign, had time for a little break at the Beachwood Café - all very relaxed. Good thing he had a warm blanket for the passengers in the backseat, as our February Tuesday tour was blessed with great, but chilly weather. More than once, we were photographed by others - probably because of the well-kept blue 1970 Cadillac De Ville Convertible.

  • star ratingI had an unforgettable tour with classic experiences. I would definitely recommend them for out of towners or LA locals looking to discover hidden gems and experience the classic cars.

CAR: Our tour was in a beautiful blue Cadillac Convertible (I believe the year was 1973). It had a white leather interior and wooden paneling. It was in incredible condition and very clean! If you need anything don’t worry, there will be water bottles, sunscreen and a throw blanket handy if you need them. Fellow classic car enthusiasts drove by and waved at us while we were out on our tour! This was my first time in a convertible and it was unreal.

TOUR: There are so many places you can go on your tour! In just 2 hours we saw beautiful houses, went down Rodeo Drive and Sunset blvd, saw famous hotels like the Beverly Wilshire and the Beverly Hills Hotel, museums like the LACMA and the Oscar Museum and got some incredible photos! Incidentally, there were other tour busses and vans in the area so some of the places we visited are popular tourist areas. Other places like the "Rapunzel House" seemed to be hidden gems. My favorite spot was the Will Rogers memorial park. Our tour guide took us there so my daughters could see the turtles and ducks.

TOUR GUIDE: our tour guide Cameron was absolutely spectacular. Such a nice down to earth person and a pleasure to spend the afternoon with. He knew where EVERYTHING cool was and has great ideas of places to go if you don't have a specific itinerary in mind.

SERVICE: Overall, everyone I spoke with planning this tour was courteous and great to work with. I had excellent service and would absolutely encourage you to book a tour. Like I said, if you have friends in from out of town and you want to show them the real LA, this is the most impressive way.

Thanks for hosting my tour, guys!

star ratingMy friend and I had a one-of-a-kind experience on our tour with Classic Cars and our guide Alex! I would definitely recommend exploring LA in this special and unique way.

I had a friend visiting me from New York and wanted to plan something different for seeing the city. Alex arrived on time with an amazing car and incredible enthusiasm. He was very flexible to tailoring the tour to what we wanted to see. Best of all, he was deeply knowledgeable about LA, the best sights and it’s history. We both had a great time and can’t wait to book another trip soon.

  • star ratingWe had such a great day with Alex, our very knowledgeable, personable and friendly driver/tour guide.
We went to places that can be visited by anyone, but the difference is how we got to these sights, the conversation we had along the way and that our family felt like we were getting a very special experience that was private and unique.
The tour can be tailored just for you and Alex made sure we saw what we wanted to see.
The add on of the gorgeous car is icing on the cake. I lost count of the waves we got on our tour and it was so cool seeing so many people smile and point at the car.
Thank you so much Alex. We had a wonderful day and this will be a very long memory for our family.
